Enabling Shared Configuration in Windows 2022 Server

Shared Configuration in Windows Server primarily refers to the Internet Information Services (IIS) feature that allows multiple web farm servers to synchronize and use a single set of configuration (applicationHost.config and administration.config). In recent days while performing Windows server 2016 to Windows server 2022, We faced issue in IIS Manager was crashing after enabling Shared configuration and had to contact Microsoft support team.

After investigation from and Microsoft support confirmed, they have a bug in windows 2022 server IIS Manager while saving shared configuration.

With help from Microsoft Support Team, We were able to identify the alternate solution to fix the issue.

Following are steps to fix the issue.

1. Add the permissions to MachineKeys under C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\

1. Add the below users from local machine

1. Everyone - Read & Execute, List folder contents, Read

2. SYSTEM - All Permissions

3. IIS_IUSRS - Read & Execute, List folder contents, Read

4. USERS - Read & Execute, List folder contents, Read

5. Administrator - All Permissions

Copy the exported IIS-Transfer-Key (which has 2016 RSA Machine Keys) to Windows 2022 Server and keep it in C Drive.

1. Run the following script in Windows 2016 server.

On the 2016 server, Run elevated PowerShell:

$folder = "C:\IIS-Key-Transfer" $aspnet = "$env:windir\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regiis.exe" New-Item -ItemType Directory -Path $folder -Force & $aspnet -px "IisWasKey" "$folder\IisWasKey.xml" -pri & $aspnet -px "IisConfigurationKey" "$folder\IisConfigurationKey.xml" -pri Both must report Succeeded! . Securely transfer those XML files to the 2022 server. On the 2022 server First attempt to import over the temporary containers: $folder = "C:\IIS-Key-Transfer" $aspnet = "$env:windir\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regiis.exe" & $aspnet -pi "IisWasKey" "$folder\IisWasKey.xml" -exp & $aspnet -pi "IisConfigurationKey" "$folder\IisConfigurationKey.xml" -exp Once you import, you will see the below message. Microsoft (R) ASP.NET Core, an open-source web development framework | .NET RegIIS version 4.0.30319.0 Administration utility to install and uninstall ASP.NET Core, an open-source web development framework | .NET on the local machine. Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. Importing RSA Keys from file.. Succeeded! Microsoft (R) ASP.NET Core, an open-source web development framework | .NET RegIIS version 4.0.30319.0 Administration utility to install and uninstall ASP.NET Core, an open-source web development framework | .NET on the local machine. Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. Importing RSA Keys from file.. Succeeded!

c. Restart the Windows Process Activation Service and World Wide Web Services.

d. Enable Shared Configuration on the servers.

Give the Path, Service Account, Username, Password and Encryption Password.

This should enable the shared configuration and you should see the sites in the server.

 How to update Python PIP in Windows

• Open the command prompt, Traverse C:\Users\UserFolder\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python310
• Run the command
• pip install pip, If the PIP does exist already, it shows as below.

                        

• Run the command to update the existing version.
• python.exe -m pip install --upgrade pip

                        

Disable azure network accelerator

Recently, I came across an issue in azure QA account, the credit was getting utilized more than the expected numbers, because of this the instances were shutting down before the due date.

This issue was finally addressed after couple of  research. The problem was with the network accelerator this was consuming a huge amount of credit.

When tried to disable the network accelerator, it showed an error as this is supported for VM series D/DSv2, D/DSv3, E/ESv3, F/FS, FSv2, and Ms/Mms only.

I came across a KB article to execute following command in azure shell to disable network accelerator.

az network nic update --name --resource-group --accelerated-networking false

In the above command line, replace nic_name and resource_group_name with existing names mentioned in your azure portal.

to dump and share, may feel eary using SVNDUMPSANITIZER.

This program has been installed and worked properly on linux x86_64 arch. Download SVNDUMPSANITIZER.

To compile it, just run:

$ gcc svndumpsanitizer.c -o svndumpsanitizer

A typical command would look something like this:

$ ./svndumpsanitizer --infile full_svn.dump --outfile repo.dump --include Main_Repo/Trunk Main_Repo/code trunk/arch

 This should solve your exporting problem in a blink.

Ubuntu - No audio after disconnecting from HDMI

1. Open PulseAudio Volume Control. Install it if you don't have it.
2. Install it if you don't have it., To install it apt-get install pavucontrol
3. When you open it, go to "Configuration" : For one of the "built in audios" one has HDMI (unplugged) in front of "Profile". Choose "Off" for that profile as below image.

Ubuntu 10.04 ethernet controller issue - Dell Optiplex

After the installation of Ubuntu 10.04 on Dell optiplex 790, we found that the Ethernet controller is not working on it.


After some research I found that there are no Ethernet driver e1000e was installed as there was a bug in that & resolved very soon.

The driver e1000e installation steps as follows.

1. Download the driver e1000e.
2. unzip the package.
3. Make a cd to the src folder inside the e1000e folder.
4. execute make command before that ensure gcc installed.
5. execute make install command.
6. execute modprobe e1000e to add the module.
7. Now you should see the network should be working fine.

 We found this issue only in 10.04 as we were using this  distribution version frequently. We have only tested this on Ubuntu 10.04.

• Select Mobile Broadband --> Add --> Select your provider country --> Select your provider --> Confirm Settings

• Now Enter the Phone Number in the Username box & Phone Number in the Password and Apply the settings.

Now you should get connected to the Reliance Netconnect.

How To : Install firefox 4 (stable) on Ubuntu

If you want to install & enjoy firefox 4 on your Ubuntu Machine / Debian Machine follow the simple steps.

• apt-get remove firefox 
• dpkg --purge firefox

Now add the below Firefox Stable PPA :-
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable

• apt-get update
• apt-get install firefox

The installation may take sometime, After the installation you check the new Firefox 4 installed and also you download Firefox 4.

Pure-ftpd-mysql : Unable to start a standalone server

Hello All,

After restarting ftp server found that the ftp server is not running, Checked the system log of the server & found the following error.

pure-ftpd: (?@?) [ERROR] Unable to start a standalone server: [Invalid argument]

In debian etch 4, The pure-ftpd-mysql does not have link to pure-ftpd from pure-ftpd-mysql by default. Apply the link by force and restart the service.

ln -sf /usr/sbin/pure-ftpd-mysql /usr/sbin/pure-ftpd

Update-grub : Dual Boot - Grub Load

Hi,

 From last 2days I was trying to upgrade my laptop from Debian Lenny 5.0 to Debian Squeeze 6.0, As there was some problem with my internet connection I was not able to do it.

After 24hrs I was able to connect to internet. Now my machine is upgraded with Debian Squeeze 6.0 finally and thought of sharing a small issue faced with boot loader after the upgradation.

When upgradation was proceeding it asked to select the partition to install the boot-loader. It showed the two partition /dev/sda (Ubuntu partition) & /dev/sda2 (Debian Partition) as I was not sure, installed the boot-loader on /dev/sda. After the complication the laptop rebooted and I was not able to find the Ubuntu 10.04 in my grub. I found only the debian kernel boot loader. After some try I figured it out, if it needs to updated run the command update-grub.  Run this command on live machine. Also check where the master boot record is pointed and run the update command.

By this the grub will read the partition table re-generate the grub.cfg as below.

How to Restrict postfix recipient in zimbra

Restrict postfix recipient in zimbra

This will show how you can modify postfix to restrict who can send to certain address in your domain such as distribution like team@domain.com.

These change will most likely not persist between upgrades!!!

zimbra/conf/postfix_recipient_restrictions.cf. Also permissions on files created in /opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/ will be changed.

• Create permitted sender list as zimbra user under /opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/

permitted_sender List :- This file contains domains list OR User mail list, Only protected senders can send mail to this domains OR users.

# vim /opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/permitted_senders

localhost                         OK

myhost.com                    OK

mydomain.com                OK

username@domain.com   OK

• Create protected recipient file as zimbra user under /opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/

protected_recipients :- This file contains email address that can only receive from permitted senders

# vim /opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/protected_senders

protect_users@domain.com         permitted_senders_list

• Include the important setting to /opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/main.cf

FYI :- The changes in main.cf will not survive after the upgrade of zimbra.

• Now add the this restriction on the top of all line.

• Reload the settings

Intallation instructions for Debian Lenny

Install sun-jdk6 from deb apt source.

After the installation of sun-java6-jdk, Add this sources to /etc/apt/sources.list

Run the following command in the terminal :-

After the installation, use an editor to update the configuration:

And invoke the service

Mplayer play only audio hold video

Hi All,

 Few days back I watched a funny movie and the dialouges were superb and thought of listening again and again as its funny movie.

As I use linux, I just wanted to play the movies audio but not the video in mplayer, after searching from man pages found this.

If you wish to listen only film dialouges run the command  :-

mplayer filename.mpg -vo null 

OR

mplayer -vo null filname.mpg

Migrate / Backup your mails to gmail / google apps.

Here are some worked examples on how to do the synchronization to google hosted email system.

Step 1.
 Create directory to where you can store password files.

Step 2.
Make a list of password files. (A password file is one with only the password stored in it)

Step 3.
Check the version of imap-sync using in your computer. The synchronization works only with versions above 1.261. If you are using debian / ubuntu use the below command to check the version.

apt-cache policy imapsync
imapsync:
Installed: 1.286+dfsg-3ubuntu1
Candidate: 1.286+dfsg-3ubuntu1

Step 4.
After the installation of imapsync go to the password created directory.

Step 5.
To synchronize the mail from any domain to gmail OR google hosted apps use the following command. (Make sure imap has been enabled in the Gmail account)

In the table called pp_users, you will find the line corresponding to the admin account. Note the salt value from the table pp_user Or you can copy / paste the salt value directly into the mysql update command.

To modify the password of the admin / user account, use the below mysql statement.

Here in the below mysql statement,
